When you first start Undying, you’ll most likely use the Scrye spell to see in the dark, and perhaps outline any nasties that may be bounding towards you. Later on, though, you can use it to see into past and alternate worlds, witnessing significant events and uncovering clues and storyline extras. Here’s one example (note: it’s from towards the end of the game – so don’t look if you don’t want anything to be spoiled).
1. We’re in the mysterious world of Oneiros. There’s nothing too mysterious about this statue though.
2. Hang on, though – a whispering voice is urging us to use Scrye. Okay then.
3. The statue looks a bit more lively now – although ironically he’s now imploring us to kill him, and he pulls open his chest to reveal a beating heart.
4. It may seem bloodthirsty but he’s obviously happy with this arrangement, so we dispatch a bullet his way and await the inevitable consequences – blood.
5. Crikey – there’s actually quite a lot of claret pouring out of there. The heart itself remains on the floor and we can actually move forward and pick it up. This’ll come in handy later.
6. Okay, so now the room’s filled with blood and we’re actually swimming in the stuff. That might be a way out there though.
7. What terrors await us now? What unearthly foes will emerge next from the twisted mind of Clive Barker, Prince of Horror(tm)? Oh, it’s one of those pineapple-headed things from earlier in the game.
