Okay, so here’s the thing. You finish the game and you’re rewarded with a bizarre little cut-scene while the credits roll. If at any time during Shogo you attempt to get a drink from the ship’s bar the barmaid always fobs you off with the same old ‘you’re on duty’ excuse. In this sequence, you witness your character try it again, but this time when the barmaid refuses, Sanjuro responds by firing a rocket towards the bar and reducing her to a smouldering pile of flesh.

Amusing? Not really – in fact, it’s pretty disturbing. We’ve all done things we’re not supposed to in games (Stoo had a bit of a thing for hitting the scientists in Half-Life with the crowbar) but it’s rare for a cut-scene to display gratuitous and unnecessary violence in this way – especially coming from your goody two-shoes hero. Couldn’t we have had a bit of end-story instead?
