Dialogue in Indy LC is mixed. On the one hand, there are a few cool bits taken from the film which can earn you extra points if you choose the same lines as Harrison Ford. At other times, though, it can best be described as ‘functional’, with a few cringe-worthy moments which make you thankful that this is a non-talkie and that the only sound you hear while playing is the whirring of the PC fan.
The worst bits are when trying to talk yourself out of a fight, either in the lengthy Castle Brunwald section or while encountering Nazi roadblocks towards the end of the game. Ignoring the fact that the very notion of being able to talk your way past a whole load of Nazis is kind of ridiculous (if only because it saves you from having to take part in a fighting sub-game), some of the dialogue options here are ridiculous. There’s usually one so stupid it should be marked ‘fight’ (“My authorization? You insult me!”) – but the ones that work aren’t that great either.
Elsewhere, there’s very little nonessential chit-chat, which is a bit of a shame. A decent script and dialogue are usually the cornerstone of all of the best adventures – keeping you entertained when you’re struggling to progress, and making the whole journey more enjoyable from start to finish.
