Some exciting news: the semi-regular discussion series, Discussion: [indie game] (spoilers!) has moved to a podcast format!
This does mean that future instalments won’t be appearing on FFG in written form. Thanks to everyone who read them, and to Stoo for extending the remit of the site to allow them to be hosted here.
While Jo and I don’t plan to revisit any games covered in our previous discussions, we’ve started off in fairly familiar territory by choosing The Blackwell Legacy for our first episode: a game we’ve both played, but not discussed, previously.
In addition to that discussion, we’ve also put up a couple of bonus episodes, in which we introduce the format and chat about various things from our gaming pasts.
Instead of the slightly ad-hoc nature of the written pieces, new podcasts will be released weekly, on a Friday, but with breaks in between each run of episodes.
Any and all support is welcome, whether it’s by listening to the podcast itself, which is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Amazon Music (as well as a few other places), or by following us on Instagram.
(For anyone baffled by or indifferent to this news: this is my one and only plug for the podcast on FFG, and the next time you’ll hear from me, it’ll be back to the typical diet of oldies reviews, delivered at the usual rate).
Thank you!
I listened to the intro episode while trying to fix the dishwasher. Which is still broken, but it was a good discussion so I regard it as time well spent. I wish you two the best of luck in this endeavour!

Glad you enjoyed it, and sorry to hear about the dishwasher! (I had to call a man round to fix ours the last time it broke).

Reading this, my first thought: strange announcement, why don’t they give the name of the “podcast”? How am I supposed to find it? Until it dawned on me that this *is* the name.
After listening to the first episode, mainly two thoughts. First, it’s a pity. The episode was ~45 minutes long. If you had published a text transcript of the same, I could have read it in 15 minutes. And easily found specific statements again later on for reference. The whole audio format just doesn’t sit well with me, I only see disadvantages. But I’m nobody, the world thinks differently. I understand you want an audience, and you can’t have one in writing. So good luck with that!
Second, the game itself… I played it about ten years ago. At the time, it was indeed a very lukewarm experience for me. Bumpy storytelling rhythm. Flat emotions. Artificial puzzle moments. Way too much meaningless blah blah. It definitely did not motivate me to pick up any subsequent part. Since then, without ever having looked at it again, my recollection moved rather towards the negative.
Anyway, it’s now in my subscription list, so looking forward what you’ll come up with when the Blackwell drag is over 😉

Hey Mr C, thanks for giving it a go.
With this series, we were slightly running out of steam with the written discussions and thought it might be fun to try a different format. The spoiler-tastic element, differentiating it from a traditional review, seemed to more easily lend itself to a podcast.
Anyway, we’ve got a short run of episodes ‘in the can’ so they’ll be releasing weekly until just after Christmas. We’ll see how it goes, I guess!

Yes, I see that this format of “we are describing to you what happened in the game, and by that, you’ll understand what we thought of it” is quite popular these days. If you have good channels for promotion, might as well be a hit!

The [painful] clinical description of what happened in a game by a man who was very bright a mind but not a gamer — a fact which is not obvious from this :

No one — according to me — can evaluate the quality and interest of the game from such a playing log. At best, it describes the gamer.
