As in the film, the game climaxes with the ‘Three Trials’, which Indy must pass in order to get access to the Holy Grail and save his father’s life. Like the rest of the game, it’s pretty unforgiving, with death more than possible at each stage, and the save game feature disabled throughout. Still, if you consult the Grail Diary that comes with the game, you should (save for a few minor misjudgements) be able to get through the trials unscathed without too much trouble.
However, if you’ve been a bit crap thus far and not managed to uncover enough clues as to what the real grail looks like, you’re fairly buggered once you get to the end. As with a number of other puzzles elsewhere in the game, this one is randomised each time you play the game, so a quick trip to GameFAQs won’t help you either. Personally, I was pretty confident (having taken notes and consulted the Grail Diary as appropriate) of choosing the right one first time around, but somehow contrived to get it completely wrong and send Indy to an extremely premature death of old age. Pick the wrong one and it’s back to the start of the whole section (boo!) but on the bright side, there aren’t too many cups/bowls to choose from, so even if you don’t have the first clue which to pick you can always just try each one until you strike it lucky (hooray!).
